About Hutchinson Legal & Associates
We offer expert help to individuals and businesses. Established in 2004, we specialise in Will writing, Powers of Attorney, advising on trusts and all aspects of tax and estate planning. For business owners we offer specialist help with policies and legal agreements, company structure and succession planning. Through our network of trusted associates we offer a full range of personal and commercial legal services and financial planning.
We are based in Bristol but have clients across the UK, Europe and Worldwide – and, within reason, we will travel to see clients anywhere in the UK or the Channel Islands.
We are compliant with the Institute of Professional Willwriters Code of Practice which has been approved by Trading Standards Institute which is an honour bestowed on very few Codes of Practice. We are also members of the Institute of Paralegals and the New York City Paralegal Association.
The firm is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and none of our face to face advisers are practising solicitors. We do, however, work closely with firms of solicitors who work with us in a strategic partnership to provide our clients – through us – with services outside of our remit such as the preparation of trust deeds and work involving HM Land Registry.
Our firm holds £2 million Professional Indemnity Insurance, £5 million Public Liability Insurance and undertakes continuing professional development.
Hutchinson Legal & Associates is an official representative for the Royal National Institute for the Blind and Remember a Charity.
We are also an Affiliate Member of SOLLA – The Society of Later Life Advisers – in recognition of our specialist work with dealing with estate planning for older clients.
Something of utmost importance to us is our desire to do our best for each and every one of our clients. Whilst we do, on occasion, produce documents quickly due to an emergency (such as a health issue or an forthcoming holiday) we do not advocate providing “quick fixes”. We will often go into a lot of detail about our clients’ personal and financial circumstances to ensure that they are getting the best advice and that all relevant solutions have been explored. All of this can a little longer than clients may initially think it may take; but it is, in our opinion, time well spent.
Founder and Director
Dr Paul Hutchinson
LLB (Hons), LLM (Wales), Ph.D, Grad.PLL, F.I.P.W., F.Inst.Pa
Paul graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, with an honours degree in Law and a masters degree in International Business Law. He subsequently completed a Ph.D in Law.
He worked for Legal Budgets Ltd, the RAC Personal Injury Practice and Lyons Davidson Solicitors before branching out on his own in 2004. Paul formed Hutchinson Legal & Associates based on a genuine desire to make a positive difference to clients. His mission is to give clear and precise legal advice and peace of mind to clients without the fear of spiralling costs and an impersonal service.
As well as a career in law, Paul serves as a part time volunteer reserve in the Royal Air Force; a role which sometimes takes him away from the office at short notice and for days or a few weeks at a time.
Paul is a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Willwriters, a fully Licensed Paralegal and a Fellow of the Institute of Paralegals (now part of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives). He sat on the panel of experts for the Legal Services Board, moderating Wills as part of the investigation into the regulation of Wills and estate administration. Paul is also an Affiliate member of STEP – The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners whose members are widely regarded as the most qualified specialists in Wills and trusts.
Currently Paul is a student member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
He contributed frequently to Moneywise magazine, answering readers’ questions on a variety of topics. Paul also prepares a monthly article for the Institute of Professional Willwriters’ magazine and is a regular speaker/trainer at professional development conferences and seminars.
Paul was awarded the honour of ‘Will writer of the year’ in 2014, and was published in the Legal Parliamentary review in 2018.
A fluent French speaker and writer, Paul also has a working knowledge of German and Italian. Among his extensive portfolio he enjoys advising a large number of international clients.
